Holi Special Gujiya Recipe
Gujiya has a crispy outer layer and a soft, sweet filling that makes it a favorite among people of all ages. It is an essential part of the Holi festival, where people indulge in this delicious sweet while playing with vibrant colors.
Here is a step-by-step recipe for making Holi Special Gujiya:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)
- 1/2 cup ghee
- 1 cup khoya
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup chopped almonds and cashews
- 1/4 tsp green cardamom powder
- Oil or ghee for deep frying

- In a large mixing bowl, add all-purpose flour and ghee. Mix well until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Gradually add water and knead the dough until it becomes smooth and pliable. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
- In a pan, crumble the khoya and cook it on medium heat until it turns slightly brown.
- Add powdered sugar, chopped nuts, and green cardamom powder to the khoya mixture. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Let the khoya mixture cool down completely.
- Divide the dough into small equal-sized balls and roll each ball into a thin circle.
- Place a spoonful of khoya filling in the center of the circle.
- Fold the circle over to make a semi-circle and seal the edges by pressing them firmly with your fingers.
- Use a fork to make indentations along the edge of the gujiya for decoration.
- Heat oil or ghee in a deep frying pan on medium heat.
- Carefully add the gujiya to the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown.
- Remove the fried gujiya from the pan and place them on a paper towel to remove any excess oil.
- To make the sugar syrup, combine sugar, water, and green cardamom powder in a pan. Bring it to a boil and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Dip the fried gujiya into the sugar syrup for a few seconds and remove them.
- Place the gujiya on a wire rack to cool and let the sugar syrup dry.
